Luton Libraries Podcast “Not So Quiet on the Library Front” launches 1 June 2026

 

As part of our National Year of Reading celebrations, Luton Libraries is launching a brand-new monthly podcast, Not So Quiet on the Library Front, on 1 June.

 

Full of stories, ideas and conversations from across our libraries, the podcast brings reading to life in a fresh and accessible way. Whether you’re looking for inspiration, curious about what’s happening in your local libraries, or simply love a good listen, there will be something for you.

To get ready, we spoke to hosts Vicky and Jess about what listeners can expect from this exciting new venture.

 

What made you want to start a Luton Libraries podcast?
So much to say but no one to listen (willingly).

What role have libraries played in your life, past or present?
From childhood to adulthood, libraries have always been a constant feature in both of our lives. They are a place of safety, knowledge and camaraderie.

If someone hasn’t visited their library in years, what would surprise them?
The community focus of the modern library.  The clubs, the events, the crafting.  They are a social hub and inclusive to everyone.  Sometimes a lifeline.  

How would you describe the vibe of the podcast in three words?
Bookish, conversational, light-hearted (definitely not dry).

 

What will listeners get out of tuning in regularly?
An insight into library life and what it is like working in a library with your best pal. Lots of reading updates, recommendations and fun conversations – a good laugh.

Without giving too much away, what can listeners expect from episode one?
A fun introduction to our library world with definitely not dull content such as “would a library work better on the moon or under the sea?”.

Jess: picking up the little pieces of Lego off the floor after Lego club
