Luton-born author Camilla Balshaw's debut memoir, NAMED: A Story of Names and Reclaiming Who We Are, traces her reckoning with her own name and the estranged father who gave it to her. From the bureaucratic power of labels to the quiet rebellions of renaming, NAMED is a story about belonging, family, and why some names stick and others shatter. The author's narrative about her estrangement from her Nigerian father, her grapples with her Jamaican mother, and her journey towards identity is woven through the chapters, making it an engaging and intimate investigation of what makes us who we are.
Camilla will be discussing Named and exploring the themes it raises, as well as reading selected excerpts from the book.Attendees will also have the opportunity to purchase a signed copy.

Rooted in Ghanaian and African heritage but celebrating all cultures, the session kicks off with vibrant stories from the afrolectic series. Then, the magic continues as children imagine, create and share their own stories – building confidence, discovering their voices and realising that their stories matter. Every child leaves not just as a reader but as a storyteller ready to shine.
