Summer Reading Challenge 2025: Story Garden

 

To help children with special educational needs, disabilities, additional needs, or those who speak English as an additional language take part in the Summer Reading Challenge, we offer a free symbol-supported resource pack. These packs do not need to be returned to the library.

 

Each pack includes:

  • Creative ideas for enjoying stories beyond traditional reading
  • Two symbol-supported stories
  • A feedback form
  • A garden and park “finding” activity sheet

Luton Libraries are committed to making our spaces, services, and collections inclusive and welcoming for everyone. This page highlights the resources and support available for individuals with special educational needs, disabilities, and additional needs.

 

Borrowable Resources for Children

We offer a wide range of inclusive and accessible materials including multi-sensory books, giant print and braille books, dyslexia-friendly titles, pop-up sensory tents, disco balls with lights and speakers, Helping Collection books (e.g. emotions, life changes), and telescopes for early astronomy exploration.

 

Borrowable Resources for Adults

Our adult collections include books on autism, ADHD, and neurodiversity, mental health and wellbeing titles, carer support resources, and Easy Read and accessible formats.

 

Digital and eLibrary Tools

Our eLibrary platforms (BorrowBox and OverDrive) offer audiobooks and eBooks with adjustable fonts and background colours, dyslexia-friendly formats, and read-aloud and screen reader compatibility.

 

Drop-in Activities and Events

We run inclusive activities designed to support learning, creativity, and social interaction. These include storytimes, and SEND-friendly events.
